Viktor Gyokeres has provided an update on his future, with Man United and Arsenal considered the frontrunners to win the Sporting Lisbon striker’s signature this summer.
Gyokeres has become one of Europe’s hottest talents following a superb return of 47 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions so far in 2024-25.
The 26-year-old is currently contracted to Sporting until 2028, with his release clause set at £85million. Multiple reports this season have revealed that he is interested in playing in the Premier League.
He was at it again during Sporting’s 3-1 win over Moreirense on Friday night, netting his fifth hat-trick in all competitions this season – and taking his goalscoring tally in the league up to 34.
And after extending his side’s lead at the top of the table over Benfica, Gyokeres remained tight-lipped when asked about rumours stating he would be allowed to leave Sporting this summer.
The Swedish frontman said: ‘No one can predict what will happen, we enjoy the moment.’

Viktor Gyokeres did not give much away when asked about his Sporting Lisbon future

Man United are reportedly interested in reuniting the Swede with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford

However, Gyokeres is believed to prefer Arsenal as he wishes to play in the Champions League
Since Gyokeres stayed put at Sporting over the January transfer window, Sporting reportedly have a gentleman’s agreement in place with Gyokeres which paves the way for his big move away this summer.
The Portuguese giants are willing to allow his sale at a fee between £55m and £70m out of gratitude for him sticking by them over the winter, according to The Sun.
When asked about such an agreement on Friday, Gyokeres said: ‘I can’t say anything about that.’
Gyokeres was then asked by one reporter whether he likes London, playing on recent links to Arsenal. The forward issued another brief rebuttal, replying: ‘I like Lisbon’.
It was recently reported that Gyokeres favours a move to Arsenal over United this summer, as he wants to continue to play in the Champions League.
While the Red Devils can still earn their spot in Europe’s most prestigious club competition next season by winning the Europa League, Gyokeres seems unwilling to bet on their tumultuous form.
Arsenal’s need for a striker has been all too apparent this season, especially following injuries to Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus.
As well as Gyokeres, the Gunners have been linked with the likes of Alexander Isak and Benjamin Sesko.
Meanwhile, Mail Sport revealed last week that United have made Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap their No 1 striker target.
